The theological foundation – and name – for Greenfields springs from the beloved 23rd Psalm.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures;
he leads me beside still waters;
he restores my soul.
He leads me in right paths for his name’s sake.
— Psalm 23:1-3 (NRSV)

Hinting at the familiar “green pastures,” Greenfields emphasizes the restorative possibilities of our Good Shepherd leading churches and ministers toward their vibrant and verdant futures.

With Greenfields, the coaching and consulting journeys are grounded in the touchstones of God’s providence, possibilities, protection, provision, and presence in Psalm 23. Thriving congregations and congregational leaders own who they are where they are, and Greenfields equips them to that end.

At the core of Greenfields is a deep-seeded commitment to generosity, accountability, mutuality, encouragement, results, hospitality, integrity, and transparency.

Generosity

We believe in God’s irrational abundance. Since God owns the cattle on a thousand hills, we also know that God owns the hills, too. We are not scared to share.

Accountability

We believe in honoring God with what we do and how we do it. Taking extreme ownership of our actions is the only responsible way of doing business.

Mutuality

We believe that God created all women and men as equals. Respecting the competencies and commitments of partners helps us share the risks and rewards of ministry.

Encouragement

We believe in building others up according to their needs. We would rather encourage the wrong person than discourage the right one. Inexhaustible support – that’s us.

Results

We believe that every tree is known by its own fruit. Although change is inevitable, progress only happens with focus and investment. Our upshot is built on our outcomes.

Hospitality

We believe that by showing hospitality to strangers we have entertained God’s messengers without knowing it. Our radical welcome means you will be treated as Christ Jesus in our midst.

Integrity

We believe in telling the truth no matter what. Our unwavering attitude toward honesty with tact makes us trustworthy. If we ever lose trust, we’ve lost more than a job.

Transparency

We believe Jesus is God made flesh and that we are part of the Body of Christ. As visible expressions of an invisible God, we will lead by serving, live by loving, and let our light shine before others, that they may see our good works and glorify God in heaven.

Reverend Craig A. Janney is the Founder and President of Greenfields Church Consulting. He created Greenfields in response to countless conversations with ministers and church leaders about their need for top quality, affordable consulting and coaching. Greenfields directly addresses the needs identified by churches: church growth strategies, pastor search assistance, and leadership development.

Rev. Janney has over 20 years of church ministry experience. He has served in numerous ministry positions, including as pastor, campus minister, athletic chaplain, youth minister, and music minister. Craig’s passions and proficiencies uniquely position him to understand and respond to needs of churches and pastors.

In 2015, he was called by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship to serve as the Manager of Reference and Referral. In this role, he connected churches with ministers seeking ministry positions across the United States and equipped search committees with resources for filling pastoral staff positions. Rev. Janney has personally assisted over 1,300 ministers and 700 churches through the search process. He has extensive experience working with search committees, listening to and understanding their needs, and recommending pastors for consideration.

In addition to his ministerial credentials, Rev. Janney served Chowan University from 2007-2015 in student affairs, enrollment management, and academic affairs. He has expertise in strategic communications, marketing, recruitment, retention, and event planning. During his tenure as Dean of Admissions, Chowan University became the fastest growing private university in North Carolina.

Rev. Janney received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion from Chowan University and a Master of Divinity from Gardner-Webb University. He is a certified church consultant, interim minister, and coach.
